Super-resolution Frame Reconstruction Using Subpixel Motion Estimation

چکیده
When video data is used for forensic analysis, it may transpire that the level of detail available is insufficient. This is particularly the case when it is derived from sensors deployed in the field since they have limited resolution. For example, a vehicle license plate number may not be legible in video captured during a traffic violation. In such cases, it is desirable to enhance the resolution of selected frames. However, obtaining the maximum resolution possible is computationally prohibitive. Forensic analysts need a tool where the tradeoff between detail extracted and the running time can be controlled. We describe a parametrized algorithm for obtaining higher resolution frames using temporal context in the video stream. By varying the framework’s variables, the quality of the output and the cost of computing it can be traded. We briefly report on our proof of concept implementation as well.

Super-Resolution Reconstruction Without Explicit Subpixel Motion Estimation
Super resolution images are widely used in many fields. Classic super-resolution techniques generally involve fusing a number of low-resolution images with sub-pixel motion difference and correct estimation of the motion. This kind of accurate estimate, however, is not always available. Incorrect estimation of the motion generally produces undesirable results. In this report, two super-resoluti...
متن کاملBlock-Matching Sub-Pixel Motion Estimation from Noisy, Under-Sampled Frames — An Empirical Performance Evaluation
The performance of block-matching sub-pixel motion estimation algorithms under the adverse conditions of image undersampling and additive noise is studied empirically. This study is motivated by the requirement for reliable subpixel accuracy motion estimates for motion compensated observation models used in multi-frame super-resolution image reconstruction. Idealized test functions which includ...
متن کاملPseudo Zernike Moment-based Multi-frame Super Resolution
The goal of multi-frame Super Resolution (SR) is to fuse multiple Low Resolution (LR) images to produce one High Resolution (HR) image. The major challenge of classic SR approaches is accurate motion estimation between the frames. To handle this challenge, fuzzy motion estimation method has been proposed that replaces value of each pixel using the weighted averaging all its neighboring pixels i...
متن کاملMulti-sensor super-resolution for hybrid range imaging with application to 3-D endoscopy and open surgery
In this paper, we propose a multi-sensor super-resolution framework for hybrid imaging to super-resolve data from one modality by taking advantage of additional guidance images of a complementary modality. This concept is applied to hybrid 3-D range imaging in image-guided surgery, where high-quality photometric data is exploited to enhance range images of low spatial resolution. We formulate s...
متن کاملOrdinal Regression Based Subpixel Shift Estimation for Video Super-Resolution
We present a supervised learning-based approach for subpixel motion estimation which is then used to perform video superresolution. The novelty of this work is the formulation of the problem of subpixel motion estimation in a ranking framework. The ranking formulation is a variant of classification and regression formulation, in which the ordering present in class labels namely, the shift betwe...
